Live Audio Sync

How to Sync with Audio

This guide goes in depth into using live audio input in Nodalin, including selecting audio input devices and configuring custom audio routing. If you want to work with audio files such as MP3 or WAV, you can simply import them into Nodalin by dragging and dropping the file onto the app. Imported audio assets can then be selected directly from the Assets dropdown of an Audio node.

Nodalin supports real-time audio input through the Web Audio API, allowing you to create audio-reactive visuals that respond to music, voice, or any other live sound source.

Quick Start

1. Enable Audio Access

  1. Click the Audio icon in the toolbar

  1. Grant microphone permission in your browser when prompted.

Manually Granting Permissions

If the permission prompt did not appear, you can manually grant audio and MIDI permissions from the site’s settings.

Firefox

In Firefox, enabling MIDI and Audio permissions is easy — if you know where to look...

Once enabled, Nodalin will automatically detect and list the available audio input devices.

2. Select Your Audio Input

  1. Open Audio Settings from the toolbar.

  2. Your available audio input devices will appear in the list.

  3. Select the device you want to use by clicking its radio button.

  4. The Audio Analyser will display a real-time frequency spectrum of the selected input.

3. Use Audio Nodes

  1. Add an Audio node from the Streams category.

  2. Configure the frequency range.

  3. Use the Output Scale to adjust the range of the output value.

  4. Connect the Audio node to any compatible property input.

On your next session

After you have configured an audio input in Nodalin, the next time you open or reload the app, you will see a dialog asking you to activate your previously selected audio device.

This step is required by your browser as a security measure. It ensures that audio input is not activated without your explicit permission, even if you have already granted microphone access.
